Industry Sources
Industry sources are used for workflow context, not to redefine the PNG format. Strong sources include official machine manuals, software documentation, material technical data sheets, safety data sheets, recognized color-management standards, and controlled production testing.
| Source tier | Appropriate use | Verification rule |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer manual or support document | Machine setup, supported inputs, maintenance, and operating limits | Match the exact model, software version, and document revision |
| Material technical or safety data sheet | Material compatibility, storage, handling, and safety | Match the exact product and current revision |
| Official software documentation | Import, export, color, transparency, and sizing behavior | Confirm the feature exists in the version being used |
| Recognized standard or standards body | Color management, terminology, testing, and safety frameworks | Record the standard number, edition, and scope |
| Controlled production test | Product-specific quality and repeatability | Record all variables and reproduce the accepted result |
| Trade article, course, video, or forum | Discovery of possible techniques or failure causes | Treat as secondary; confirm consequential claims with stronger evidence |
