Understanding
i.Production Requirements
Before accepting a PNG for production, confirm that the selected process can use raster artwork and that the file meets the requirements for the exact product, size, placement, and variant. A file that opens successfully may still be unsuitable for production.
The maker's documented workflow controls the final requirements. General PNG guidance cannot replace machine, software, ink, transfer, material, or product specifications.
Confirm the order includes:
- The correct PNG revision and intended product
- Final output dimensions and placement
- Adequate pixel dimensions at the requested size
- The expected background or transparency
- Color expectations and an approved reference when needed
- Required companion files, such as a cut contour, template, or production instructions
ii.Equipment Requirements
PNG is artwork input rather than machine-ready instructions. The maker still needs equipment and software appropriate to the production method. Some workflows can import PNG directly, while others require RIP processing, tracing, digitizing, slicing, or a separate vector or machine file.
Typical equipment relationship
Workflow How PNG may be used Additional requirement may include DTF or DTG Raster print artwork RIP settings, underbase, pretreatment, curing equipment Sublimation Transfer artwork Printer profile, transfer paper, heat press, product fixture Print and cut Printed image Separate or generated vector cut contour Raster engraving Grayscale or bitmap source Machine-specific engraving settings and positioning Embroidery Visual source or reference Digitized stitch file 3D printing or CNC Reference, texture, or height-map source in limited workflows Model, toolpath, or machine instructions iii.Material Requirements
The receiving material affects color, detail, durability, adhesion, texture, and finishing. A PNG does not identify whether a blank, garment, coating, film, ink, resin, wood, or other material is compatible with the selected process.
Verify the material for:
- Compatibility with the selected production method
- Color and surface texture beneath the artwork
- Required coating, pretreatment, primer, or cleaning
- Usable production area and product geometry
- Heat, pressure, ink, adhesive, or tool tolerance
- Lot variation and any required test piece
