Exporting

  1. i.Recommended Settings

There is no single export preset that is correct for every PNG production workflow. Use the maker's specification first. When no special requirement is provided, export at the final required pixel dimensions, preserve transparency only when needed, and embed the agreed RGB profile.

    General export decisions

    SettingRecommendation
    FormatPNG
    DimensionsExact required final pixel dimensions
ResolutionEnough actual pixels for the intended physical size
ColorMaker-requested RGB profile, often sRGB for general interchange
TransparencyOn only when the background must remain transparent
InterlacingUse only when the receiving workflow specifically benefits from it
CompressionLossless; optimize file size without intentionally reducing image detail
  2. ii.Software-Specific Considerations

Export controls differ among applications. Some tools use Export, Export As, Save a Copy, or Download, and each may handle dimensions, metadata, profiles, transparency, and bit depth differently.

    Before relying on a preset

    • Confirm whether the application converts or embeds the color profile
    • Check whether export dimensions are pixels, physical units, or a scale multiplier
    • Verify whether transparency is supported by the chosen export path
    • Check whether hidden content, artboard bounds, or canvas bounds control the exported area
    • Reopen the result because software defaults can change between versions

Save the editable native file separately. Exporting a PNG should not replace the working document.

  3. iii.File Validation

Validation should confirm both file integrity and production suitability. A file can decode correctly while still being the wrong size, revision, background, profile, or product layout.

    Validate that:

    • The file opens without an error and is identified as PNG
    • The width, height, color type, and alpha behavior are expected
    • The file is static when the receiving system does not support animated PNG
    • The effective resolution is sufficient at final size
    • The artwork matches the correct template and product variant
    • Any required companion path, instructions, or reference file is included
    • A production proof is approved when the outcome is color- or placement-critical
  4. iv.Common Export Problems

Most PNG export failures come from incorrect dimensions, unintended transparency, color-management differences, flattened editing structure, or confusing the artwork image with production geometry.

    Common problems and corrections

    ProblemLikely causeCorrection
White or colored boxBackground was exported as opaqueRemove or hide the background and export with transparency enabled
Dark or light haloEdge pixels were matted against another backgroundClean the edge and inspect against contrasting backgrounds
Blurry production resultToo few pixels at final sizeReturn to the source and export at sufficient pixel dimensions
Unexpected colorProfile conversion, missing profile, gamut, or output variationUse the requested profile and validate with the production workflow
Wrong crop or placementCanvas bounds or template alignment was incorrectRecheck dimensions, guides, orientation, and product template
Cut line missingPNG does not contain the required vector contourSupply the requested companion vector path
Text cannot be editedText was rasterized in the PNGEdit the retained source file and export a new version
File rejectedUnsupported dimensions, size, color mode, or namingCompare the export with the platform and maker requirements
