Best Practices 5 of 6
Repeatability
Repeatability means producing acceptably consistent results from the same approved artwork and product specification. The PNG is only one controlled input; machine condition, material lot, environment, settings, operator steps, and finishing also influence the outcome.
Record the variables needed to repeat the result:
- PNG filename, revision, pixel dimensions, and checksum when appropriate
- Product, blank, supplier, material, color, and lot
- Machine, fixture, tool, platen, or other configuration
- Software, profile, preset, and relevant production settings
- Preparation, pretreatment, transfer, curing, and finishing steps
- Approved placement measurements and physical proof
- Inspection criteria and accepted sample
Change control
When a controlled variable changes, test the new combination before assuming the previous outcome will repeat. Update the production record only after the new result is approved.
