i.Beginner
A beginner can identify PNG as a raster format, explain its core strengths and limits, inspect basic file properties, and export a simple PNG for one defined compatible use.
Beginner performance:
- Distinguishes pixels from vectors and machine instructions
- Reads pixel width and height
- Calculates effective resolution for a supplied size
- Distinguishes transparent pixels from white pixels
- Exports and reopens a correctly named PNG
- States the intended product, method, size, and background choice
- Recognizes when a separate production file may be required
ii.Intermediate
An intermediate learner can independently prepare and validate a complete PNG handoff for an established product and production workflow.
Intermediate performance:
- Uses product templates, bleed, safe areas, and restricted zones correctly
- Evaluates alpha edges, color-profile requirements, and substrate effects
- Selects appropriate companion files
- Maintains source, preview, production, and archived revisions separately
- Completes creator export and maker intake checks
- Plans and evaluates a controlled physical proof
- Corrects a failed handoff without introducing new defects
iii.Advanced
An advanced learner can validate PNG workflows across products or production systems, control repeatability, and diagnose failures whose symptoms could originate in several parts of the workflow.
Advanced performance:
- Interprets relevant PNG color types, bit depths, chunks, alpha behavior, and physical-pixel metadata
- Designs a controlled preflight and proof strategy
- Documents file, software, machine, material, process, and inspection variables
- Compares how two production workflows use the same PNG differently
- Uses one-variable-at-a-time tests to isolate a defect
- Verifies corrective action before production resumes
- Improves repeatability and waste controls based on recorded evidence
