Mastery Criteria
i.Knowledge
The learner accurately explains PNG's raster structure, lossless compression, pixel dimensions, allowed color types and bit depths, transparency behavior, color metadata, file structure, and inability to store editable vectors or universal machine instructions.
Knowledge is demonstrated when the learner can:
- Select PNG only for an appropriate role in the workflow
- Calculate pixel and physical-size relationships
- Explain why resolution metadata does not create detail
- Distinguish file validity from production readiness
- Explain which requirements belong to the product, method, machine, and material
ii.Demonstration
The learner demonstrates the complete preparation process using a real or controlled sample rather than only describing the steps.
The demonstration includes:
- Creating or opening an editable source
- Applying the correct product template
- Exporting a purpose-built PNG
- Inspecting dimensions, effective resolution, color, and transparency
- Preparing companion information or files
- Completing the handoff and approval checks
- Explaining each decision without relying only on a memorized preset
iii.Application
The learner applies the skill to a product and compatible production method under realistic constraints. The result must solve the assigned production need, not merely satisfy a file-format checklist.
Successful application requires:
- Correct order and product interpretation
- Suitable design adaptation and placement
- A technically valid and production-suitable PNG
- Correct companion-file decisions
- A maker-readable production package
- An acceptable proof or final output when physical production is part of the assessment
iv.Troubleshooting
The learner can define, contain, classify, test, correct, and verify a PNG-related failure without changing unrelated variables or immediately blaming the file.
The learner must:
- Write an objective defect statement
- Compare the approved file, software preview, production setup, and physical result
- Separate file, software, machine, material, production, and inspection causes
- Choose a controlled diagnostic test
- Support the conclusion with evidence
- Produce or document a verified acceptable result
- Update the preventive control that allowed the failure
v.Quality / Performance
Mastery requires accurate, consistent work that meets the supplied product and production requirements. Speed alone is not evidence of mastery.
