Software Problems

Suspect software when the PNG is valid but changes after import, export, RIP processing, or transfer between applications. Test the same untouched file in a second color-aware viewer before modifying it.

Software diagnosis

SymptomLikely causeCheckCorrection
Imported size is wrongUnits, resolution metadata, or automatic scaling are interpreted differentlyCompare imported dimensions with the PNG pixel dimensions and intended physical sizeEnter final dimensions explicitly and disable unintended fit or scaling
Colors differ between applicationsDifferent profile, gamma, or color-management behaviorInspect embedded color information and application policiesUse the requested profile and align the color-managed workflow
Transparency becomes black, white, or opaqueThe application, export mode, RIP, or preview does not handle alpha as expectedTest the alpha channel and composite over known backgroundsUse a supported import path or intentionally composite to the required background
Fine gradients show bandsBit-depth reduction, indexed-color conversion, or output screeningCompare the source, exported PNG, RIP preview, and physical resultAvoid unintended palette reduction and use the validated output mode
Artwork is clippedExport bounds, artboard, page, or printable area is smaller than the artworkCompare canvas and job boundariesCorrect the export area or production page setup
Cut contour is missingSoftware imported only raster pixelsCheck for the separate vector path and contour naming rulesAssociate the required vector contour in the production workflow
Software rejects the PNGUnsupported dimensions, bit depth, animation, profile, or file structureCompare the file properties with the software specificationCreate a compatible production export from the source without discarding required quality
